ISABELLA BRITO
Artist residency2026
Barranco Ateliê.
Anápolis - GO.
Isabella Brito developed the project “Vagalume tem-tem” during her residency at Barranco Ateliê (February and March 2026), an investigation that combines artistic practice and conceptual research, reflecting on memory, erasure, and permanence in the Cerrado, using the firefly as a metaphor for cultural resistance and sensitive ecology.
During the residency, the artist worked with the appropriation of antique objects and experimented with phosphorescent paint, exploring the rural landscape, territory, and the imagery of the countryside. The works developed for the “Vagalume tem-tem” project were exhibited during the Open Studio at Barranco in March 2026.
The artist’s work is linked to her research project O apagar da memória: vagalumes, arte contemporânea e cultura caipira no Cerrado (The Fading of Memory: Fireflies, Contemporary Art, and Rural Culture in the Cerrado) conducted within the Graduate Program in Territories and Cultural Expressions in the Cerrado (PPG TECCER) at the State University of Goiás (UEG), under the guidance of Prof. Rafael de Almeida within the scope of Entre-Imagens: Experimental Laboratory of Cinema and Art.

Isabella Brito was born in Anápolis (GO) in 1993; she lives and works between Anápolis and Goiânia. She holds degrees in Architecture and Urbanism and in Visual Arts from the Federal University of Goiás (UFG). Her artistic research explores the relationships between everyday objects, memory, and rural landscapes, examining displacements, affections, and narratives that traverse the territory and the imagination of the countryside.
Brito held the solo exhibition "Erosão Inevitável do Tempo" (Inevitable Erosion of Time) at the Brasília Art Museum in 2026, and has also participated in group exhibitions such as the 26th Salão Anapolino de Arte, “Escalas Invertidas” at the Miami Cultural Hispanic Arts Center, “Tubo de Ensaio” at the Octo Marques Cultural Center in Goiânia, and “Transparências e Opacidades” at the UFG Cultural Center.
The artist’s residency at Barranco is part of the Painting Atelier project, an initiative to explore pictorial practice and experimentation within the context of contemporary art in Goiás. This project is funded by the Goyazes Program of the Government of Goiás, through the State Secretariat of Culture.
