Artist residencyDecember 2023 – January 2024.
Anápolis - GO.
Joardo Filho (Anápolis, 1990). He lives in Anápolis and Goiânia, GO, and is a visual artist with a bachelor’s degree in Social Communication from UFG (2012).
Between December 2023 and January 2024, Joardo was an artist-in-residence at Barranco Ateliê, where he focused on themes that have been present in his artistic practice in recent years, such as exploring questions regarding the modes of meaning and representation of public monuments in highly mediatized contexts. On January 13, 2024, the artist shared part of the processes developed during the residency during an Open Studio at the Barranco space.
Among the works in the open studio, the installation Anhanguera Alcohol (2024) stands out; it features a photograph of a protest involving arson at the base of the Monument to the Bandeirante in Goiânia. When searching for this image on Google, hundreds of “visually similar images” from various countries were identified. Of these, 165 were selected and incorporated into the work, forming a visual collage. In front of this image are stacked boxes of Anhanguera brand alcohol. Stacked together, these boxes create a monumental presence that evokes the figure of the Bandeirante and his symbolic association with fire.
Joardo has participated in group exhibitions at various venues, including “Dialetos II” (2018) at CCSP - São Paulo Cultural Center, “Conversas: resistência e convergência” (2021) at Casa das Onze Janelas in Belém, PA, and the Goiás National Contemporary Art Salon (2022) at MAC Goiás. He received awards at the 25th Salão Anapolino de Arte (2020) and the “Sala Compacta” project at MAG—Museum of Art of Goiânia (2021), and held the solo exhibitions “Invisible Spaces” (2017) at MAPA -Anápolis Museum of Fine Arts and “Monumentos Esvaziados” (2019) at the FAV Gallery (UFG). He also taught the course “Contemporary Photography” (2018–2019) and founded the “Experimental Research Group on Contemporary Artistic Methods” (2018), both at the Oswaldo Verano School of Arts.
