Conversa Aberta (Open Conversation) with Selma Parreira was a talk at Barranco Ateliê where the local audience had the opportunity to learn more about the career and artistic practice of this artist from Goiás. Based in the state capital, Goiânia, and a former resident of Anápolis, Selma Parreira was born in Buriti Alegre, Goiás, and has built a prolific artistic career exploring various techniques over the past few decades.

Moderated by artist and curator Joardo Filho, the conversation explored Selma Parreira’s artistic career through various works and media used by the artist, discussing the themes and interests underlying her artistic vision. The Conversa Aberta is part of the Tempera Workshop, an activity also led by Parreira at Barranco Ateliê on January 17 and 18, 2026.

These activities are part of the Painting Atelier, an initiative by Barranco Ateliê to explore painting practices and experimentation within the context of contemporary art in Goiás. This project is supported by the Goyazes Program of the Government of Goiás, through the State Secretariat of Culture.

Selma Parreira is a visual artist, art educator, and researcher. She holds a master’s degree in Visual Culture from the School of Visual Arts at UFG (Federal University of Goiás), where she taught from 1993 to 2017. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Drawing and Fine Arts from UFG and completed an artist residency in printmaking at the Allende Institute in Guanajuato, Mexico. Selma has been working with painting since the 1980s, and her artistic production and research span painting, photography, installation, urban intervention, and video. She has participated in art salons, group exhibitions, and solo shows in various Brazilian state capitals and some abroad, with works acquired by collectors from around the world. She currently gives lectures and curates contemporary art projects.
